Wikipedia

Wikipedia has quickly become one of the ten most popular sites to visit on the internet, having millions of people surfing it each day. So now that the public in theory can read about any chosen article they wish is this much better then a library? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia

The internet has given them a source in which they can search whatever they want whenever they want. Of course controversy has struck this angelic webiste quickly. With the ability for any person to edit a page people feel pages can be biased, but truly what is an unbiased opinion primarily? Wikipedia's source of information is even being used in court cases, this is of course an official stamp seen as governements now use it. One similar problem is the effect it has had upon students, teachers can now find that students in some cases will simply copy and paste entire pages of wikipedia for an essay...the bastards. So now that people have this unlimited source of information where will it end? Will it continue to grow until it chronicles the entire universe enacapsulating us in our own pages making each person a part of the wikipedian movement? Highly likely soon we will be simple pods for this soon to be tyrannical website capable of crushin us with a simple blow.

Nintendo Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360

Games consoles promosing to not only give you a new experience but hours and hours of entertainment. Now that the games market makes more money then film box offices this is indeed a lucrative buisiness to invest into:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6088914.stm

Above is a link over a womans description over her playing a nintendo wii. Yet the nintendo wii is aimed at almost everbody anybody who has not played games before supposedly can quickly delve themselves into it. The controllers for the nintendo wii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Remote) look almost identical to a television remote. Obviously because we have seen it before the idea is we our mor likely to play it, instead of playing a PS3 or Xbox 360 which have custom built controllers specifically for there consoles. We also see that this is not the first time nintendo have tried to change the way we play games:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Scope
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES_Zapper
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NES_Zapper
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Camera
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Printer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Glove
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_Pad

Now a console like PS3 can set you back around four hundred and fifty pounds and thats not including a game which retail at sixty pounds each. Some say the price will put may off considering you can almost buy three nintendo consoles for that price.

Big changes in Television

Millions is now being spent into the investment and revolution of television. Apple our now investing into making a device that simply stalls all of your internet downloads and then can easily be hooked up to any telly:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5339470.stm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_tv

Strangely enough this is not a completely new venture for Apple as they have tried this in the past unsuccesfully:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_TV

Possibly even though the premise was there people were not ready for this new idea from Apple. So what has changed in the past fourteen years to make Apple Tv a possible success? Not only have people changed but the ability to acces new media has vastly differed from what was a achievable a mere 10 years ago. Streaming movies and television shows is easy. South park for example has gained a huge cult following on the internet with people posting every single episode they have ever done on one internet site:

http://allsp.com/

Yet even with south parks dwindling ratings due to everyone being able to watch whenever they want and not at the peak times that tv company's need, it is still on air. So could this soon mean all tv is available on the internet and it will be all about entertaining and finding financial succes in other means. Comedy shows like Little Britain and Mighty Boosh have done extensive theatre tours finding sell out crowds could this be a solution?

Internet Downloads

The internet has changed a lot of peoples dail occurences. We even see the internet affecting television, even though 20 years ago it was still the only way to get as much media intake as possible. The music industry has been hit badly by this internet downloading or file sharing:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_sharing

Of course this has been done in the past but not to this degreee, artists are now complaining over their financial losses due to file sharing. While other company's are seeing the advantages of this new way of distributing your media:

Internet buisnesses affect upon us.

Recently many websites have become so popular they soon work themselves into our daily lives. I'am of course talking about Google the internet phenomenon that has no physical object and yet it is worth in the billions. Even the American government noticed such a huge use of Google that they wished to look at Googles search History as to Tap into what America our looking for. Fellow search engines have found themselves used less and less:

http://www.information-revolution.org/

The idea is that people use google so much that they in theory handing over dear information which can be used negatively. They also propose the idea of 'Sleep-Surfing' just like the term of a 'Couch-Potato' people supposedly no longer think of anything original for there web surfing. We can also see the amount internet sites generate from a seemingly company that find it hard to make profit:
